As the first phase of the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) season wraps up on Wednesday, defending champions Edo Queens will host Ekiti Queens at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium by 4 PM in a highly anticipated showdown.
The match is seen as a revenge mission for Edo Queens, who suffered a surprising 1-0 defeat to the newly promoted Ekiti Queens in the first-leg fixture in Ado-Ekiti. Determined to settle the score, the Benin City-based team is prepared to put on a dominant display in front of their home fans.
Edo Queens, currently second in Group A, come into the match with strong momentum after securing a 2-0 victory over Confluence Queens last week. With four wins, two draws, and just one loss this season, they are eager to extend their winning streak to five consecutive games.
Despite Ekiti Queens’ earlier triumph, Edo Queens remain confident of securing all three points. Coach Moses Aduku’s squad is mentally, emotionally, and physically prepared for the battle, as they push to overtake Remo Stars Ladies at the top of the table.
The Edo State Sports Commission, led by Yusuf Enabulele, has also expressed full support for the team. Encouraging the players ahead of the match, Enabulele emphasized the importance of securing a victory.
“This is a crucial game, and we expect nothing but total victory. A win will be a big boost for us, so go out there and defeat the Ado-Ekiti girls,” he stated.
With home advantage and a point to prove, Edo Queens are determined to end the first phase of the season on a high note.
