Defending champions of the 2023/24 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, Edo Queens FC, are gearing up for a fierce showdown as they take on Confluence Queens of Lokoja in the highly anticipated “Battle of Ayimba” on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The crucial NWFL Matchday 6 encounter is set to kick off at 4 PM.
Edo Queens have been in impressive form since the start of the season, sitting second on the league table with 11 points from five matches. A win against Confluence Queens would strengthen their title defense and potentially return them to the top of the standings.
Their opponents, Confluence Queens, have struggled to find consistency this season, making it a tough task to halt the momentum of the high-flying Edo Queens. Under the leadership of coach Moses Aduku, the Benin-based side is determined to secure another crucial away victory and maintain their championship ambitions.
Historically, Edo Queens have dominated past encounters between the two teams, and the squad is confident of extending that record. Backed by Edo State Sports Commission Chairman, Hon. Desmond Enabulele, the team has received strong government support and motivation.
Speaking after their recent 2-0 triumph over Nasarawa Amazons at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Enabulele encouraged the players to maintain their winning mentality.
“We started well, and we will finish well,” he assured. “The state government remains committed to supporting the team’s success. Our goal is to retain the NWFL Premiership title and compete at the continental level again. A win in Kogi will be a great step towards achieving that. I wish you all the best.”
With their sights set on another victory, Edo Queens are ready for battle, determined to leave Lokoja with maximum points.
