Ahead of the much talked about Edo state Football Association elections, the State FA on Tuesday July 25th 2023 inaugurated the Electorial and Appeal committees .
The event which was held at the board room of the Edo state sports commission, Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin city, had in attendance the board members of the Edo state football Association and members of the two committee
The compositions of both committees is in line with the statutes and directives issued by the Nigeria Football Federation on the need to put in place qualified Personnel to conduct hitch free elections across the state.
While charging the Electoral committee and the appeals committee on the need to have a credible elections, Edo FA acting chairman Dr Moses Aghedo noted that there is the need for the members of the committee to do their job without fear or favour.
” If you are selected to serve in both committee, count yourself lucky as astute manager, we want to entrust the Edo FA elections in your hands, we believe you all will do a good job Aghedo stated.
Dr Moses Aghedo however assured the electoral umpires of Edo FA utmost support and urged them to give level playing ground to prospective candidates.
The Chief medical Director of the university of Benin Teaching Hospital, (UBTH) Prof Darlington Obaseki was appointed as the chairman of the Electoral committee, a retired Fifa referee, SP Osaretin Omorusi will serve as the vice chairman, Mr Patrick Owolabi, a season sports journalist Salihu Ibrahim, Mrs Anne kadiri, Mr Alohan Osakpomwan will serve as members while Edo FA secretary Tony Uwens is the secretary of the committee.
Former Nigeria international, Monday Eguavoen was appointed the chairman of the Appeals committee, Emmanuel Obasuyi also an ex international will serve as vice chairman, while SP Saturday okao ( Rtd) and another ex international Prince Afejuku were appointed members, and the FA secretary Tony Uwens the secretary of the committee.
Reacting on behalf of both committee, the chairman of the Electoral committee Prof Darlington Obaseki said that their goal is to have a free, fair and credible Edo FA elections.
“Let me on behalf of the electoral committee thank you so much for the confidence you have reposed on us to do this very important duty’.
” We know the FA placed a lot of premium for the development of Football in Edo state, and that’s why you chose experience and eminent football stakeholders to champion the very important elections, we want to assure you that we have a clear goal, our goal is to create a level, fair play ground for all contestants’.
” We shall hit the ground running because we know we are short of time as many states have concluded their elections’.
“We are all stakeholders, we are all working towards one goal which is developing of football, ours is to make sure the elections is free and fair, and transparent so that everyone will be happy with the process, Obaseki stated’.
The Edo state Football Association elections is expected to be concluded on or before 12th of September 2023.
