A member of the organising committee of the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival, Sabina Chikere has declared that Edo 2020 will be the best ever in history.
Edo 2020 was originally scheduled to hold in March but was postponed indefinitely due to the corona virus pandemic.
Chikere who spoke highly of the state’s readiness ahead of the festivals said the state will set a record to be chased by other states.
“Nigerians should expect grand and spectacular events during the festivals. We are coming both sports and culture. Remember Edo state is known for its rich culture, so it will be a blend of sports and culture.”
“It is going to be one of its kind that other states will try meet its record, we are setting a record this year. Sports facilities have been upgraded (for the festival). Edo 2020 will be different.” She concluded.
With reports gathered today saying the festivals have been slated to hold between October and November this year, the football administrator supported the motion as she said the festival will be pandemic free.
“It (living with the pandemic)is a new normal. There are regulations to adhere to, if we adhere, then the NSF should hold. I don’t think the pandemic is a problem for us not to host, if we adhere to regulations, we will have a pandemic free festival.”
Sabina Chikere is the Senior Special adviser on sports to the Deputy governor of Edo state, Rt. Hon. Phillip Shuaib.
