The minister of sports and youth development, Sunday Dare has assured that the ministry is still hoping to host the postponed Nigerian Sport Festival this year.
The Sports Festival slated to be in March in Edo state was postponed indefinitely due to covid-19 pandemic spread in the state and the country.
The minister was a guest on a sport show at Splash FM, Ibadan and gave his thoughts when asked about the festival
“You know, if you ask me what is going to happen tomorrow or next week, you know its almost impossible because we live in an uncertainty time. Our desire is to hold the Games this year.”
“It is Nigeria’s Olympics involving 36 states holding every two years but then we must live in the reality of Covid19 pandemic. May be when things are coming back to normal in January then we shall see what happen. Every country situation is different. So, we are monitoring we need to look at covid 19 situation in Edo state whether it has been flatten”. He added.
He further explained that decisions would be made soon as regards to the festival.
” The National Council on Sports will look at situation surrounding it and i think at the end of this month. We are going to have a clear picture of what going to what will happen.”
Corona virus pandemic has affected about 5,000 in the country killing over a hundred.
