Governor of IMO state, Sen Hope Uzodinma has charged Imo athletes to raise the bar and prove their mettle at the National Sports Festival.
The governor made the declaration at the Dan Anyiam Stadium just before the team left for Benin city.
Deputy Speaker IMO state house of assembly and Chairman house committee on Sports Rt Hon Amara Iwuanyanwu who represented the Governor assured the athletes and officials of the Governor’s support towards them.
He, therefore, called on the State contingent to reciprocate the governor’s gesture by winning medals at the games.
“When the Commissioner went to his Excellency to present your matter, without any hassles the Governor gave his express permission ” Hon. Iwuanyanwu said.
The Deputy Speaker on behalf of the Governor announced the release of 16 new buses to convey the athletes to Edo State.
“The Governor has done so much for us and the only way for you to pay him back is by bringing back laurels to the State”
The lawmaker assured the athletes of the Governor’s resolve to reward them handsomely.
“His excellency has promised to reward any athlete that returns with a medal.”
In the same vein Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon Dan Ogu tasked the team IMO to raise the bar at the games.
He assured the athletes that the government has provided every logistics needed for a successful outing at the games.
“Your allowances and remuneration have been provided by the Governor and you will receive it once you get to Edo.”
The commissioner advised team IMO to show good faith by rewarding the Governor with numerous medals.
Team IMO has since arrived in Edo with about 200 athletes and 78 officials.
