The torch of unity for the upcoming 20thNational Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled for Benin from March 22 to April 1 arrived in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi capital, on Friday.
Jane Owoh, the South East Zonal Coordinator of the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, led the delegation of the ministry in presenting the torch to the Ebonyi government.
While presenting the torch to Kenneth Ugbala, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Owoh pointed out that the occasion symbolised the unity of the nation.
She said the torch also shows that the sports festival was “around the corner’’.
“The love and unity of the country is mainly shown through sports and we expect such bond to be strengthened during the festival.
“The torch has been traveling round the country since President Muhammadu Buhari received it in January and has toured the north east, north west and north central states of the country.
“It is presently the turn of the south east as it was received in Enugu on Thursday and will visit Abia after Ebonyi,” Owoh said.
