Athletes and officials of TEAM ANAMBRA led by Director, Madam Faith Okwonna, and general Commandant, Aka Chika, have arrived Benin, capital of Edo State for the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) holding from 4th to 16th April 2021.
The TEAM ANAMBRA who came in at about 1.13pm on Saturday in a convoy of two luxury buses and other vehicles of the commission including an ambulance are in high spirit in anticipation of the festival. The athletes are lodged at two hostels inside the campus of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Hall 3 Aminu Kano Hostel (Male) and Hall 3 Extension (Female).
TEAM ANAMBRA which comprises of a total of 150-team contingent departed for Benin on Saturday morning after a round of pep talks from the Chairman, Anambra State Sports Development Commission, Tony Oli. TEAM ANAMBRA had earlier sent an advance party comprising of Madam Faith Okwonna and another staff of the Commission, Emeka Nrialike, who left on Thursday to ensure that all needed for a hitch-free exercise for the contingent is put in place.
Before departure, Chairman of the Commission, Tony Oli urged the athletes to be good ambassadors of the state by remaining focused on the task ahead and ensuring that they come out victorious by winning laurels in their various individual and team events. Oli admonished the athletes to shun any act that could damage their image and reputation. The sports administrator urged them to be courageous, disciplined and exhibit the spirit of determination which is a panacea for success during the games.
TEAM ANAMBRA will participate in 13 events at the games namely Athletics, Badminton, Cricket, Gymnastics, Judo, Karate, Kick-Boxing, Kung Fu, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Para-Athletics and Deaf Table Tennis.
