Against the recent false alarm in the social media that there were three cases of cironavirus in Benin, the host city for the 20th National Sports Festival tagged Edo 2020 Games,the Local organising committee of the games has cleared the air and assured participants and the public there is no threat of Covid-19 .
The Chairman of the NSF LOC and deputy governor of Edo state Rt Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu gave the assurance today in at a press briefing in Benin,insisting that Edo is safe for the games to hold.
Comrade Shaibu said that his committee with the chairman, sub health committee Prof. Darlington Obaseki are working in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of health and the World Health Organization to prevent outbreak of the dreaded coronavirus and other contagious diseases throughout the games in Benin.
He added that his committee is presenting the issue of foreign athletes participation or otherwise for discussion with the Main Organising Committee of the 20th NSF .
The Deputy Governor who reiterated that Edo will not compromise the health standard of Nigerians maintained that everything required by the health subcommittee for prevention and management of situations have been provided.
Prof. Obaseki added that that Edo is coronavirus free. He assured that all necessary measures,ranging from isolation center,referral clinics and scanners have been put in place.
