The Enugu State Government on Tuesday assured the state’s athletes of three weeks of camping ahead of their participation at the upcoming National Sports Festival (NSF) in Benin.
Vitus Okechi, the Enugu State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, gave the assurance in Enugu in a statement by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dan Onwuegbuna.
“The state will camp its athletes for three weeks to ensure they are competition ready,’’ the Commissioner said, adding that the state would compete in sports they have comparative advantage in.
“Only athletes who will win medals for us will participate in the 20th NSF,” he added.
Meanwhile, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is expected to receive the 2020 NSF’s Torch of Unity on Thursday.
Onwuegbuna, who quoted the Commissioner as disclosing this in the statement, said the Torch of Unity would arrive at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and then be taken to the Government House.
