Registered participants of the 2025 ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon can begin collecting their race kits on Thursday as the Marathon Expo opens at the Federal Secretariat Car Park, Eagles Square, Abuja.
The marathon, scheduled for Saturday, March 1, 2025, will feature two races: a half-marathon and a 5-kilometer fun run. The half-marathon will both start and finish at the ECOWAS Commission, while the 5 km race will commence at Independence Bridge near Sahad Stores and also conclude at the ECOWAS Commission.
Race Director Gabriel Okon announced that participants must collect their running bibs and vests at the VIO Container Booth, Federal Secretariat Car Park, between February 20 and 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. To collect their kits, runners must present valid proof of identification.
Those unable to collect their kits in person may authorize someone to do so by providing a signed authorization note, a copy of the completed entry form with their photograph, and a copy of their valid ID. The designated collector must also present their own proof of identity.
Okon further stated that registration remains open to participants worldwide until February 28. Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) can obtain physical registration forms at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) office at Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package A, as well as at the FCT Sports Council and the Area Councils.
Highlighting the significance of the event, Okon emphasized that sports play a crucial role in fostering unity across West Africa. He noted that the ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon not only promotes regional integration but also encourages fitness habits such as walking, jogging, and running, which offer substantial health benefits.
Since its inception, the marathon has served as a platform for youth empowerment and engagement while positively impacting the economy of the FCT, particularly the hospitality and allied industries. Okon added that the event also plays a vital role in promoting tourism in the region.
