Crystal Palace wonderkid Eberechi Eze scored a sensational solo goal against Sheffield United after racing from inside his own half and calmly firing home to further sink struggling Sheffield United down to relegation spot in a 2-0 victory.
The 22-year-old, whose reputation has only continued to grow following his switch from QPR in August, demonstrated impressive footwork and deft dribbling ability when gliding beyond several players.
With a clever jink inside down the right flank, Eze then set himself on the edge of the penalty area and slotted into the far corner.
Speaking after Palace’s 2-0 victory, Eze described the process behind his goal.
Eze told Sky Sports: “I saw quite a lot of space and there weren’t many men back so I thought I could take the chance and see if I could beat someone.”
“When I got into shooting range I just thought about trying my luck. The defender was in front of him so the keeper hasn’t got the best vision.”
“It was a good goal and I’m grateful for the opportunity to come and take my chance.”
Whenever you’re on the bench you want to come on and make an impact. I’m sorry for what happened to Jeffrey Schlupp but I was ready to take my chance.”
Palace went into the game having failed to win any of their last five Premier League matches, but Eze insisted that his side have belief that matters will improve.
He said: “We have to stick together and continue to work hard for each other and the results will come”.
Eze was initially named on the bench for the clash at Selhurst Park but was forced on in the 40th minute after Jeffrey Schlupp’s injury.
And with only his first shot of the match, Eze ensured a spot in the weekend’s headlines once again.
