Following the defeat Golden Eaglets suffered against Baby Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire at the just concluded final of 2021 WAFU Cup at the Stade de Kegue, Lome, Togo, former coach of Messiah FC of Lagos, Anthony Ushurhe has advised the coaching crew to scout for more players before the commencement of CAF U-17 African Nations Cup in Morocco scheduled for March.
Nigerian junior national team lost 2-3 to its West Africa brother, Cote d’Ivoire in the final of WAFU Cup final played on Monday. Despite this defeat, the two finalists have qualified for the forthcoming Junior Africa Nations Cup in Morocco.
Ushurhe, who is currently handling the U-16 Arsenal football team that are playing in the Junior Premier League in the USA expressed satisfaction with the team’s performances but noted that the coaching crew led by Fatai Amoo needs to inject some players that can make the team formidable before Nations Cup.
“ I am happy that we booked a place in the Nations Cup. Nigerian football fans are disappointed that the team did not win the tournament but at least we qualified for the Nations Cup proper. All I can say is that the coaching crew led by Amoo can still scout for some two or three players to fortify the team in preparation for the Morocco tourney.
“Also we still need to commend those players who played the tournament because they made Nigeria proud by reaching the final stage. It is not a bad team at all but like I said earlier coach Amoo needs to inject some players into the team. Some of their matches I watched showed that we still need some new players to make the team stronger and better,” he said.
Commenting on the sudden death of former Super Eagles assistant coach, Joe Erico, the Delta born US-based coach said he was shocked to hear the sad news on Thursday. He said Erico’s demise is a big blow to Nigerian football and condoled with Nigeria Football Federation NFF as well as other football stakeholders in the country and prayed that God should uphold the late family and the relations left behind.
“Erico popularly known as Jogo Bonito is a popular name as far as Nigerian football is concerned. I was shocked when I read on social media that he had passed away. It is a big blow for the Nigerian football family within and Diaspora but I am using medium to condole with the late family and every football stakeholder in Nigeria for this sudden death of our beloved coach. May His soul rest in peace,” he concludes.
