An international friendly has been confirmed for the Super Eagles on March 25th, just three days after they play Seychelles in their last match of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Sports247.ng learnt that, although Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have not disclosed that identity of the team that will fly in to battle the Eagles, feelers indicated that it will be one of Africa’s top-three sides on the latest FIFA monthly ranking.
This is a follow-up to a revelation in November by Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr that the team will play five friendly matches to prepare for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in June next year.
Although Rohr was confident that the team will play one friendly in March, he was also mum on the identity of the team to visit Nigeria for the game, three days after the Eagles battle Seychelles.
Rohr said: ”In my plans to the NFF, I’m also proposing three friendlies in May, since most of the clubs will end their season early in May.
“I hope to have between two to three weeks intensive training with the boys to knock them into shape for the Africa Cup of Nations.”
Pinnick added this past weekend that the NFF are working round the clock to ensure the Eagles get adequate preparations for AFCON 2019.
“There is just one free window before the AFCON, so we decided on playing a top country to offer us good competition.
“I can confirm that we are going to be hosting a top team in Africa, one of the top 3 on the continent.
“We play Seychelles on the 22 of March, then three days later we play the friendly match here in Nigeria.
“I won’t mention the country but I can assure Nigerians that the deal has been concluded already,” Pinnick concluded.
