Super Eagles players are rolling out words of praise to Confederation of African Football (CAF) for stopping Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna from hosting this weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Libya.
The Crocodile City had initially been earmarked by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to host the match on October 13, but sports247.ng has now learnt that it took a verdict from CAF to knock the arena out, causing a shift in venue to Godswill AKpabio International Stadium, Uyo.
Now heading into Saturday’s tie in the Akwa Ibom State capital, Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr disclosed that his players are happy with the pitch quality they have already seen at the arena, which gives them added confidence for victory against the Libyan visitors.
The 65-year-old Franco-German coach said he and his players are happy with what they have seen at the stadium, and thanked Akwa Ibom State governor, Udom Emmanuel for providing the best of everything for them.
Rohr said: “We were supposed to play in Kaduna, the pitch wasn’t ready and CAF didn’t approve it.
“We are really very happy to be here in Uyo. It’s now our home. We have a good feeling here with the Stadium and the people.
“This level of happiness is what I want to see in the game against Libya on Saturday.
“We have a lot of European players, only one is playing in Nigeria. They are used to playing in this type of condition.
“This training pitch is okay, the same with the Mainbowl. I want to thank the Governor of Akwa Ibom, His Excellency Emmanuel Udom for receiving us again.”
