After Super Eagles defeated the Central Africa Republic, CAR 2-0 in the return leg of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying match played on Sunday, Nigerian US-based football coach, Anthony Ushurhe said the senior national team players need teamwork and total commitment if they want to qualify for the next year FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Nigeria’s senior national team hammered CAR 2-0 in the return leg in Douala after a shocking 0-1 home defeat in the first leg. The Eagles were at their best on Sunday when Leon Balogun and Victor Osihmen scored to give the country a brighter chance to reach the final phase of the world cup qualifying match.
With this victory, the three-time Africa champions are topping the group with nine points, while Cape Verde occupy the second position with seven points as CAR and Liberia has four and three points respectively to occupy the third and fourth position on the table.
The former Messiah gaffer said he was not surprised that Nigeria won the return leg saying that the home de3feat Eagles suffer spurred them to go all out for victory against CAR.
“The return leg was better than the first leg. Apart from the fact that we lost the home match, our players were not in their good form but the return leg in Douala was better. All I can say is that if the players play like a team and remain focused, I believe they have the chance to qualify for the World Cup in Qatar,” he said.
Ushurhe admonished the Eagles coaching crew led by Rohr to approach the remaining two matches with all seriousness. He said Nigerian football fans would not forgive him if he fails to qualify the country for next year’s World Cup.
“There is no room for complacency or any mistake again. We have seen that there are no minors in football again so the coaching crew and players should take all the remaining two matches seriously because any defeat again would not be acceptable,” he said.
Nigeria would play their next match against Liberia in Monrovia and play their next home match against Cape Verde next month.
