The African champions secured a notable win in their opening game in Lille on Monday, defeating the world number three team.
Kalu was instrumental in the triumph, delivering a standout performance with 19 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals.
Her exceptional play was a key factor in D’Tigress’ success and highlighted the team’s formidable defensive capabilities.
Expressing her satisfaction with the result, Kalu also issued a warning to their future opponents.
“Our defense was relentless. Nobody defends quite like us,” Kalu told FIBA.com. “When we are on the court, we smell blood. Nobody defends quite like us, and that is what keeps us going.”
Ezinne Kalu acknowledged the challenge posed by Australia, particularly their experienced players and skilled coach, but praised her team’s ability to maintain their intensity throughout the game.
“Australia came out in the second half with their veterans and an amazing coach who knows what she’s doing, but we kept our foot on the gas and kept on going,” she said.
D’Tigress will next face host nation France on Thursday, with Kalu and her teammates aiming to build on their strong start and continue their quest for Olympic success.
