The anticipation is high as the D’Tigers, Nigeria’s national basketball team, gear up for the pre-tournament championship to secure their spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The championship, set to commence at the Convention Centre of Eko Hotels in Lagos today, holds the promise of thrilling matchups and intense competition.
Kicking off their qualifying series, Nigeria is set to face Senegal in their first game, scheduled for 5:00 p.m. The team’s aspirations are firmly rooted in showcasing their prowess and proving their standing as one of the world’s finest basketball teams.
Coach Mike Brown, leading the charge, expressed the team’s confidence in their ability to shine on the international stage once again.

As they prepare to go head-to-head with their familiar adversaries, Senegal, the players are focused on seizing the opportunity to demonstrate their caliber.
Michael Eric, a key player, expressed his conviction that the D’Tigers are well-prepared to secure victory against Senegal, emphasizing that the presence of formidable African basketball powerhouses poses no threat to their ambitions.
The pre-tournament championship is slated to conclude on August 20, promising a week of fierce competition and exhilarating matchups.
However, there have been alterations to the participant list, as FIBA, the global basketball governing body, announced the withdrawal of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda from the tournament.
FIBA stated that both the Congolese and Ugandan basketball associations communicated their decision to abstain from the competition.
FIBA has taken note of this development and intends to conduct an investigation to determine any potential disciplinary measures.
Consequently, the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament 2023’s Group A will now feature Nigeria alongside Senegal and Mali, forming a competition between the three teams.
In Group B, Cameroon, Guinea, and Tunisia will participate in a round-robin format, vying for the top two spots to advance to the final phase of the championship.
The D’Tigers’ enthusiasm remains undeterred by the alterations, and their commitment to securing a place in the Paris 2024 Olympics continues to burn bright.
As the championship unfolds, fans eagerly await thrilling performances and fierce battles on the court, anticipating a display of Nigeria’s basketball prowess on the global stage.
