Diamond Football Academy to be punished – NANPF

After being allegedly accused of assaults and maltreatment, president of Diamond Football Academy, Ikechukwu Martins Apugo will punished by the National Association of Nigerian Professional Footballers, NANPF.

The secretary-general of the association, Austin Popo who refused to comment on the incident said the assailant will get the deserved punishment.

The assulted player, John Kelechi Onuoha earlier accused the president for attacking him in training on Saturday.

“He stated: “I am a player of Diamond Football Academy in Umuahia. Our president is Hon Ikechukwu Martins Apugo…At training on Saturday 2nd of May 2020,we were playing a tournament against ourselves at our stadium in Ahieke, Umuahia.

The coach was in charge of the match and he said three minutes remaining to end the match and my team was losing 1-0, I made a comment on the field saying: “ three minutes remaining o, if our team loss we go.” That was the only comment I made and Hon Martins Apugo, the owner of the academy called me and I came to answer him, he asked me what I said, I answered him…he gave me a blow on my mouth and started beating me, blood was rushing out of my lips and he continued beating me even with the blood on my whole body, kicking me and said I should roll on the field, used a big bamboo stick on my laps and hands. I have the pictures of my injured and my training kits with blood stain and a short video of what he did to me at our stadium…I know my right as a young footballer and that is why I am writing for it to be on aired.”

Efforts to reach Honourable Apugo on the issue have proved abortive.
