Held at the University of Lagos Cricket Oval, the event aimed to enhance the capabilities of Games Masters/Mistresses and Physical Education teachers, empowering them to cultivate sports talent within Lagos schools.

Lekan Fatodu, Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, underscored the importance of the initiative, explaining that the training is a part of the state’s broader strategy to revitalize sports at the grassroots level.

“Development at the grassroots is essential,” Fatodu stated. “Training the trainers is crucial because, if our coaches lack knowledge of the latest sports trends and skills, they cannot effectively teach the next generation.

Our commission is dedicated to ensuring Lagos has the best when it comes to sports, and that starts with providing our trainers the best support.”

The clinic covered a wide array of cricket techniques, focusing on both fundamental skills and advanced coaching methodologies. Participants practiced essential drills, learned team-building strategies, and gained a strong grounding in the rules of cricket.

Many Games Masters and Mistresses left the clinic with a renewed sense of confidence in their abilities to coach and inspire students.

A Games Master in attendance shared, “It’s a privilege to gain such targeted training, and I now feel more equipped to introduce cricket to my students in an engaging way.

This initiative by the Lagos State Sports Commission has been a game-changer.”

Fatodu concluded that this program is only the beginning. “This clinic represents our commitment to giving every child access to quality sports education,” he said.

“Our trainers are the foundation of that commitment, and we’re here to make sure they have everything they need to succeed.”

The “Train the Trainers” program is poised to impact Lagos schools greatly, ensuring a new generation of athletes benefit from skilled, well-trained mentors dedicated to advancing school sports in Lagos.
