Mighty Wanderers Abraka inflicted a 1-0 defeat on KG Sports Academy to put an end to the unbeaten run of the pride of Agbor in the Bet9ja-DFA State league.
Mighty Wanderers took the lead inside 5 minutes following a goalmouth scramble after KG Sports Goalkeeper Young Great fumbled the ball. KG Defenders were caught napping as they expected the referee to call for an infringement on the goalkeeper but Mighty Wanderer Striker reacted faster to toe-poke the ball across the line and the goal stood.
KG Sports Academy who won the Team of the Week award following their 100% start to the season with two straight wins came out smoking but Mighty wanderers remained resilient and took the lead into the break.
The Second half was dominated by the Agbor boys but their efforts to level the scores were to no avail. Twice Skipper Joseph Ukah came close with his trademark-free Kicks. Mighty Wanderers held on and won the match and went home with three points.
The loss saw the Pride of Agbor drop to 4th place following Wins by Young Shall grow who are top with 9 points and Ihuyase who defeated Alika FC 1-0 to take the 2nd place with 7 points. Alika Fc seat in 3rd place with 6 points ahead of KG on goals difference.
“We gave a good fight but unfortunately we couldn’t get anything out of the match, we hope to bounce back next week” Coach Lansana Dukaray of KG Sports said after the defeat.
KG Sports Academy will take on Itamah FC in week 4 on March 8th as they eye a return to the top 2 following the drop in week 3.
