Deshi Jalong Shares Inner Pain And Goals For North Central Basketball

A board member of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Adamu Deshi Janlong, has opened up on inner pain and his burning desire to change the basketball landscape in the North Central Zone of Nigeria.

Deshi revealed that the North Central Zone is blessed with talented youths who can excel in the slamming and dunking game if they are nurtured well and bear his mind on his utmost goal for the region.

“My goals and objectives is to make the North Central Zone of Nigeria a basketball hub, help the teaming youth population to effectively combine sports and education and I’m using the North Central Basketball Forum as the vehicle to drive the various initiative aimed at reaching my goals.”

Deshi Janlong, a senior FIBA badged technical commissioner, who is also a forensic accountant and an auditor, explained that, the body structure, height and physic of kids in the North Central region of Nigeria makes it easier for them to be great basketball player and we must key into that and make the game flourish in them.

To achieve this laudable goals for the North Central Zone of Nigeria, Adamu Deshi Janlong, a NBBF Technical Commissioner member and board member has been working with different basketball stakeholders on a number of projects and initiatives tailored to meet the needs of the Zone.

Jordan Nwora Elite Basketball Camp, Ejike foundation and ANDOMA foundation are some of the organizations the North Central Basketball Forum has been working with in the last four years to drive it’s various inventiveness.

The North Central Basketball Forum development train is not stagnant, it has travelled to Abuja, Jos, Lafia and Makurdi. Ilorin, the Kwara State capital is the next stop according to
Deshi Janlong.

As a result of the Forum’s hard work and diligence, the senior FIBA badged Technical Commissioner, has been able to host a good number of events, camps and competitions that include:

North Central Basketball forum in partnership with Jordan Nwora Elite Basketball camp in Lafia, Nasarawa State

North Central Basketball forum in collaboration with Ejike foundation organized youth basketball Championship for boys in Lafia, Nasarawa State also awarded scholarship to 2 boys in America

NCBF in alliance with Jordan Nwora organized youths Basketball championship for boys and girls under 18 in Makurdi, Benue State.

NCBF in association with Jordan Nwora organized under 18 boys and girls championship in Abuja.

NCBF in conjunction with NBBF/ Total energies organized pre qualification for NBBF Totalenergies Division 2 in Lafia.

Basketball club championship in Jos, Plateau State

The highly successful North Central
Basketball club championship in Jos, Plateau State held recently has been expanded to include the female category and Ilorin, Kwara State has been selected to host the next edition.

The 6ft 6inch tall Adamu Deshi Janlong’s journey into the basketball firmament started over three decades ago while in secondary school and the exploits of the likes of Michael Jordan fuelled his thirst to do more for the game.

“I grew up in an institution where I see people playing basketball and I developed love for the game and I’m a big admiral of Micheal Jordan in those days.”

In order to keep the burning flame, passion and zeal for basketball and sports active, the accountant has been meeting and encouraging big guns, His Royal Highness, military officers and top Government officers within the North Central Zone to throw their weight behind the game.

As technical commissioner during the Nigeria University Games Association Games in Lagos and the technical commissioner Chief of Army Staff Games in Abuja, Adamu Deshi Janlong stressed that the country is packed with young ones that can change the negative perception of sports and the country for good.

“My long term goal is to re-position basketball development in Nigeria and help establish as well as provide the enabling environment for basketball to grow. To work with other leading Sports Foundations to organize consistent camps that will unearth talented kids in the game.”

Training and re-training for technical officials

Train school game masters to be come technical officials

He further emphasized that to make basketball work in Nigeria, unity and team work is essential, and government and corporate backing is highly needed.

“When all the stakeholders work as a strong unit, basketball will blossom,” he concluded.
