Super Eagles are ready to confront the Wasps of Rwanda in the final 2025 Morocco race on Monday, Sports247 reports.
Coach Eguavoen declared the team ready to finish on a high despite missing three key players in the final of preparations ahead of the final match of the 2025 Morocco race.
Stanley Nwabili was released on Friday due to the unfortunate demise of his father, while coach Augustine Eguavoen justifies the release of Ola Aina and Ademola Lookman.
In his press conference ahead of the match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, the coach said Aina was released from the squad at the request of his club Nottingham Forest.
Eguavoen confirmed there is pre agreement between the two parties that Aina will be released if the Super Eagles should qualify after the match against Benin Republic.
“You know relationship is something that is key. Prior to our game in Côte d’Ivoire against Benin, I had a word with an official from Nottingham Forest and after that I got a message from Nuno the manager of Forest as well pleading if we can release Ola Aina because they are playing Arsenal next weekend.
” I said okay, we have a deal, once we are able to aget the result in Côte d’Ivoire, we will keep that relationship,” said Eguavoen.
He however gave assurances that there are enough cover for his absence.
Eguavoen said: ” We have got other players that we think can also play, so based on that we want tino keep relationship.”
In the same vein, coach Eguavoen also confirmed that Ademola Lookman has been released from the camp as a result of fitness issues.
“Ademola Lookman is slightly hurt. We have a good relationship and then understanding as well, based on that he was released.”
“Because he said he can’t play at a hundred percent, he can also play at seventy percent, he pleaded. I am the only one that can excuse him, if I want him to stay, he will stay but we have to keep the relationship going, so I allowed him.”
The absence of the three players threw up the chance for Maduka Okoye and Bright Osayi to have their first game in the qualifying series as the Super Eagles are ready to feast on the Wasps of Rwanda on Monday.
Rwanda suffered a loss at home last week against Libya and threw away their chance of qualifying, a result which handed the Super Eagles the chance to qualify for Morocco 2025 before the kick against Benin Republic setting up an inconsequential clash apart from pride.
The Super Eagles will be looking to increase the number of victories against Rwanda having two six encounters while the remaining four games ended in stalemate as the kick off the match has been set at 5pm Nigeria time.
