Delta State Unveils Exciting Under 17 Football Program At Stephen Keshi Stadium

Onos Oborewovori, a key committee member of the National Youth Games in Delta State, has announced an exhilarating Under 17 football program set to take place on August 30th-31st, 2024, at the prestigious Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.

The event promises to be a groundbreaking opportunity for young football talents across Nigeria to showcase their skills on a grand stage.

The program is designed to spotlight the best young footballers, offering them a platform to be discovered by top scouts and coaches, including the renowned international soccer scout, Paul Omamomo Ojo, who will be coordinating the event.

This initiative is part of Delta State’s broader commitment to nurturing grassroots sports and identifying the next generation of football stars.

Participating teams stand a chance to win ₦500,000, with additional consolation prizes for the best-performing teams.

However, the stakes are high as the competition strictly enforces eligibility rules. Only players born between 2010 and 2008 are allowed to participate, and any team fielding overage players will face automatic disqualification.

The program is open to academies and clubs from across the country, with a maximum of 16 players per team. To ensure a smooth and professional event, teams are required to submit their logos and jersey pictures ahead of the event to avoid any clashes on match day.

Mr. Paul emphasized the program’s mission to uncover raw talents, stating, *”This is a golden opportunity for young players to showcase their skills and take their first step towards a professional football career. Nigeria has a rich football talent pool, and we are committed to giving these youngsters the platform they need to shine.”*

With Asaba’s ideal location, the program is expected to draw teams from various states, making it a true celebration of youth football in Nigeria.
