Delta State has been announced as the host for the eagerly awaited 2023 National Youth Games, set to take place from September 7 to 17.

The decision was confirmed during the 7th National Youth Games Joint Technical Meeting held in Asaba.
Alhaji Abubakar Ismaila, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Chairman of the Main Organising Committee (MOC) expressed his appreciation to Delta State for stepping up to host the prestigious event.
He emphasized the importance of investing in the youth as they represent the future of the nation.
The National Youth Games strictly cater to athletes under the age of 15, making it a U-15 competition.
As such, Alhaji Ismaila urged participating states to adhere to this age restriction and ensure that only eligible athletes are fielded.
Any violation of this rule will result in appropriate sanctions being imposed, regardless of the state represented.
Regarding the facilities, the Permanent Secretary acknowledged that Delta State had previously hosted the National Sports Festival seven months ago.
He highlighted that some of the venues used during that event would be updated and improved to meet the required standards for the upcoming Youth Games.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori conveyed the state’s unwavering commitment to successfully hosting the games.
He assured the attendees that Delta State was well-prepared to manage the event without any hindrances, drawing from their experience hosting the larger National Sports Festival.
The Governor’s stance on maintaining the state’s reputation for excellence and striving to retain its top position in the competition further emphasized their dedication.
Tonobok Okowa, Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, represented the Governor at the meeting and expressed the state’s willingness to collaborate closely with the technical committee to ensure the event’s smooth execution.
Governor Oborevwori welcomed valuable input from the committee, recognizing its significance in achieving a successful and memorable National Youth Games.
The 2023 National Youth Games promise to be a showcase of young talent, with Delta State prepared to host this significant sporting event with zeal and enthusiasm.
