Delta State LOC Chairman Urges Discipline Among Athletes Ahead Of National Youth Games

As Delta State prepares to host the 8th edition of the National Youth Games, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Chief Solomon Ogba, has called on leaders of state contingents to emphasize discipline and orderliness among their young athletes.

His appeal came during a recent meeting in Asaba, where the LOC reviewed its work plan in preparation for the games, set to take place from September 9th to 19th, 2024.

In a statement released by the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee, Harrison Ocholor, Chief Ogba highlighted the importance of maintaining the facilities that will be used during the event.

He stressed that the high cost of upgrading and maintaining these venues necessitates that all athletes conduct themselves responsibly.

“It is imperative that the young athletes coming for the games are encouraged to be disciplined and maintain orderliness during their stay at the hostel facilities,” Ogba remarked, noting that these facilities are predominantly located within educational institutions, both government-owned and private.

Chief Ogba, a former Commissioner for Sports in Delta State, also commended the dedication of the subcommittees working tirelessly to ensure the successful execution of the event. He emphasized that the LOC is committed to organizing a youth games that will not only highlight the talents of the young athletes but also showcase the significant transformations taking place in Delta State under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, whose passion for sports is well-known.

The meeting also saw comprehensive reports from the heads of the various subcommittees, outlining their action plans to ensure the smooth running of the games. Chief Ogba expressed confidence that the combined efforts of all involved will lead to a successful and memorable event for Delta State and the nation.
