“Delta State is Always Ready” –  Dr. Kingsley Emu Assures Readiness for National Youth Games

Ahead of the opening ceremony of the 8th National Youth Games scheduled for September 12, the Delta State Government, represented by Secretary to the State Government Dr. Kingsley Emu, has affirmed its full preparedness for a successful and secure event in Asaba.

Dr. Kingsley Emu gave this assurance following an inspection of various facilities designated for the competition. He stated that while the facilities, including competition venues, accommodation, and transportation arrangements, are satisfactory, the state has also prioritized and implemented robust security measures to ensure the safety of all participants.

Dr. Emu inspected the main bowl, indoor sports halls, swimming pool, VVIP and VIP lounges at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, the Cenotaph with its new sports facilities, the ultra-modern hockey pitch and sports hostel, and the Dennis Osadebey University hostels expected to house about 70 percent of the athletes. He assessed the beddings, toilet facilities, electricity, water supply systems, and food provisions for the athletes.

Expressing satisfaction with the state’s readiness, Dr. Emu stated, “Delta is always ready. We have well-maintained facilities and the capability to start the competition immediately. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth and successful event.”

On security, he assured that despite Delta State’s relatively low crime rate, additional measures have been implemented to safeguard the participants.

“We have integrated advanced security technologies and trained personnel to handle any incidents swiftly. We are confident that we can maintain a secure environment for everyone involved.”

Dr. Emu pointed out that Asaba, known for its hospitality, is well-prepared to host the Games, ensuring athletes, officials, and spectators have a pleasant experience. “We have hosted numerous international events, and we are committed to providing the same level of excellence for the National Youth Games.”

Accompanying Dr. Emu on the inspection were Chief Solomon Ogba, Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Festus Owhojero, Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, Victor Onogagamue, Chairman of the Facilities Sub-Committee, Harrison Ocholor, Chairman of the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee, Hon Fred Edoreh, Head of Operations, Media and Publicity, and other LOC members.

The National Youth Games will officially commence on September 12, 2024, at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.
