Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has taken the opportunity of former Super Eagles midfield maestro Austin Jay-Jay Okocha’s 50th birthday to celebrate his enduring impact on the world of football.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor hailed Okocha’s significant contributions to the development of Nigerian and global football.
The governor’s remarks, conveyed from Asaba, emphasized that Okocha’s football journey has been marked by patriotism, humility, mentorship, and a steadfast dedication to nurturing emerging talents.
Okocha’s role as a worthy ambassador of Delta State was also highlighted by Governor Oborevwori.
In recognition of Okocha’s immense influence, the governor underlined how Okocha’s skills and experience shone during his tenure as the leader of the Delta Football Association (DFA) from 2015 to 2019.
As one of Delta’s most gifted footballers, Okocha’s achievements on the field have made his home state proud.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I congratulate an illustrious son of the state, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, on his 50th birth anniversary,” Governor Oborevwori expressed.
He continued, “As you turn 50, your family, associates, and admirers have cause to be grateful to Almighty God for having granted you a life of wonderful accomplishments.”
Having captained the Super Eagles during the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals in Korea/Japan, Okocha’s leadership and skills shone on the international stage.
Over the course of his football career, he earned 73 caps for the Nigerian National team between 1993 and 2006, scoring a remarkable 14 goals.
