Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, announced on Thursday the formation of a seven-member Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 8th National Youth Games, set to take place from September 10th to 20th, 2024, in Delta State.
The committee is led by Chief Solomon Ogba, a former President of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria and the current First Vice President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee. Chief Ogba’s extensive experience in sports administration is expected to play a pivotal role in the successful organization of the event.
The committee also includes Chief Tonobok Okowa, the President of the Athletic Federation of Nigeria and the immediate past Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission. Chief Chinonye Aliyu Daphey, President of the Aquatic Federation of Nigeria, and Chief Victor Onogagamue, former Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, have also been appointed to the LOC.
Additional members include Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori, Mr. Harrison Ocholor, a seasoned sports journalist and broadcaster, and Mr. Festus Ohwojero, the current Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, who will serve as the secretary of the committee.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized that the LOC is tasked with ensuring that Delta State delivers a well-organized and memorable 8th National Youth Games. The committee’s work is set to commence immediately, with the state government scheduled to host a technical joint meeting for the Games from August 18th to 20th, 2024.
This meeting is expected to set the stage for the final preparations ahead of the Games.
