Delta Queens Edge Benue Queens With Adam Princess’ Brace In NWFL Week 2

Two first-half goals from Adam Princess secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory for Delta Queens over visiting Benue Queens at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba.

The win marked an emphatic comeback for the ten-time Nigeria Women Football League champions after a season-opening loss to Bayelsa Queens in Yenagoa.

From the first whistle, Coach Peter Dedevbo’s side displayed fiery determination, attacking relentlessly.

Despite Benue Queens’ goalkeeper Stella Okereke making several heroic saves, the pressure paid off in the 13th minute when Adam Princess capitalized on a loose ball and fired a rocket into the top corner.

The diminutive winger struck again in the 43rd minute, dancing past two defenders before slotting a composed finish into the bottom corner, doubling the hosts’ lead and sealing all three points.

The second half saw Delta Queens creating a flurry of chances through the electric Destiny Itobor, but the resilient Okereke ensured the visitors avoided a heavier defeat, redeeming herself after their 5-0 drubbing by Robo Queens in their season opener.

lta State Sports Commission Chairman, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori, praised the team’s “superlative performance,” noting their rapid progress despite limited preparation time. He urged them to sharpen their finishing ahead of their next match against Adamawa Queens.

Delta State House Committee on Sports Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, commended the team for their efforts, emphasizing the importance of sustaining their momentum to justify Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s investments in sports development.

Delta State Football Association Chairman, Chief Godwin Adode, and Sports Commission Director General, Mr. Festus Ohwojero, echoed these sentiments, stressing the need for consistency against tougher opposition.

Coach Peter Dedevbo lauded his team’s spirit but expressed disappointment over missed opportunities. “We’ll work to correct those errors ahead of the Adamawa Queens game,” he promised, while thanking the board for their unwavering support.

Benue Queens’ Coach, Liadi Bashiru, acknowledged the visitors’ struggles but remained optimistic. “This is a team for the future,” he said, vowing to implement tactical adjustments for their next match.

Delta Queens now look ahead with confidence, seeking to maintain their upward trajectory in the NWFL season.
