Williams Delima scored a late equaliser as hosts, Delta Force fought back to claim a 1-1 draw against Nigeria National League Group B2 leaders, Remo Stars in an absorbing contest at the Ogwashuiku Township Stadium in Delta State.
Sunday Williams fired in the opening goal for the Sky Blue Stars in the 83rd minute after coming off the bench to connect brilliantly with substitute Adebogun Omotayo’s pass.
Ogwuche Mathias, Olaniyonu Nokeeb and Oknuoghae Osas had different chances to give the visitors the lead but there were unlucky with their attempts as they went wide.
With the chances lost, Delta Force grew into the game, Ijeoma Maxwell got hold of the ball to locate Ezeali Kingsley, they took a shot at distance but it went over the bar.
The host came more closer half an hour after a poor communication from goalkeeper James Faith and Edozie Ewelike, Ijeoma Maxwell stole the ball from the error committed to shock the visitors but Edoka Owochio was active to deny his attempt.
Delta Force returned with all seriousness in the second half as they got an early chance to go ahead with a superb finish from Iwuala Anayo but James Faith threw his body to the ball to deny them yet again.
Adebogun Omotayo came on to combine well with Sunday Williams, he tried returning to Adebogun Omotayo but he couldn’t get close to push forward with the ball and Ogbodo Felix cleared off for a counter play.
However, they managed to salvage a draw thanks to a last minute strike from Williams Delima to restore parity for his side.
The result sees both sides level on points but the visitors are ahead with superior goals difference as they have the chance to maintain the lead till the end of the season as they welcome Stationery Stores to the Gateway International Stadium in one of match day seventeen fixture in the ongoing Nigeria National League.
