Lagos State football team player, Maduabu Chimezie has admitted that losing to NNL side, Gateway Fc really gingered him to put on his best, as his team held NPFL side, MFM Fc to a 2-2 draw, as they (The Lagos State team) prepare for the National Sports Festival in Benin, come February.
The Lagos State team held their own against the Odukoya’s boys, as both teams settled for a fascinating 2-2 draw, in a match which was built to help build up the momentum of the Lagos State team and bring them back to winning ways, after suffering a 2-0 loss to Gateway Fc in a warm-up match.
Speaking with Sports247 after scoring the equalizing goal and helping his team force a draw against the Odukoya’s boys when being asked what motivated him to perform so highly in the game, unlike the previous performance against Gateway Fc, Maduabu Chimezie admitted that the loss being suffered by his team at the hands of Gateway Fc, really geared him up to perform against MFM Fc with high standard performance, as he has learnt a lot from his past mistakes.
“As a footballer, sometimes you give your best and it doesn’t work out. So I learnt from my past mistakes, that I needed to buckle up against MFM Fc and give in my best, which I did. We lost on Monday (to Gateway Fc), which wasn’t a good game for me as a player and I needed to prove myself today (on Wednesday) against MFM.
While still speaking, Chimezie who is popularly called “Marlian” by his teammates expressed his gratitude towards being selected to represent the Lagos State football team at the National Sports Festival, admitting that it was a privilege and honour to him. He also stated that he and his teammates will continue to give their best for the team and the state at large, as they pray to remain injury-free for the upcoming National Sports showdown in Benin, come February.
“It’s a privilege for me to be part of the Lagos State football team to represent team Lagos at the Upcoming National Sports Festival in Edo State. We will continue to give our best for the state (Lagos State). We have great footballers here in Lagos, so we will continue to do our best. Drawing against a strong side like MFM is a good one for us, and we pray for an injury-free squad, as we head into the Festival”, he emphasized.
Maduabu Chimezie, whose dream is to play in Europe in future will hope to help his team win the Gold medal in football, when the National Sports Festival commences on February 14th in Benin.
