In an exclusive interview with Sports247.ng in Lagos, Bashiru acknowledged that several players in the squad are fasting, and the team has had to adjust accordingly.
“Yes, they are fasting, and we can’t stop them—it’s their religion. Even I, as the coach, am fasting as well. I can’t tell them not to, but we are finding ways to manage it. I don’t think it significantly affects their performance,” he stated.
Bashiru also addressed their recent 3-0 home defeat to Nasarawa Amazons in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Week 9 fixture at the Legacy Pitch—the team’s biggest home loss of the season.
“That’s football. Sometimes you plan for a game, but things don’t go as expected,” he admitted.
“This loss is a reminder that we need to improve our tactical and technical training sessions so we can bounce back stronger in the next game.”
Speaking on the club’s ambitions, Bashiru emphasized the importance of retaining their Premiership status and continuing to provide maximum exposure for their players to further their careers.
“As you can see, the team is quite different this year compared to last season. Some of our key players moved to other clubs, which is good for their development. Our priority as a modest club is grooming players from the grassroots and giving them exposure,” he explained.
“We want to showcase our players so they can compete at this level and progress in their careers,” Bashiru concluded.
