The coach of Dannaz Ladies FC of Lagos, Bashiru Fatai has blamed fatigue as the main reason behind his side’s 3-1 loss to Nasarawa Amazons.
It was a second straight away defeat in the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) for The Cedars from Lagos, but Fatai took the setback with equanimity.
Rather than blame the referee, the pitch, or his players for the defeat, which came after a similar slump away to Abia Queens, Fatai said fatigue played a key role in the game.
He went on to give players on both sides thumbs up for their enterprising performances and expressed hope that The Cedars will bounce back in their next game and keep their NWFL Super-6 target alive.
Fatai stated: “Although we lost, that’s football for us. It’s a game of win or lose. If it comes to your time to lose, you will not be comfortable, but you have to take it like that.
“One thing I enjoy is good football. I look for good football from both sides. We also thank God for injury free game. That is also good for us.
“There are many things that affected us in this match, especially fatigue from travel.
Coming from Niger to Abuja, we had to stay three days on the way, then back to Lagos for FA Cup and play away two days later again.
“On the pitch, they tried to do their best, but the best was not good enough. When Naaarawa came to Lagos, the game was free. Today, the game was also free.
“A lot of people say when you are at home, it’s your chance to win, but I say let’s show good football. When they come to Lagos, they are able to show good football. For me, it’s not about blaming anybody for the defeat.
“As I said, there was fatigue in our players. When we lose, we just have to accept defeat and adjust for the next game, to see the best of the players. Apart from the fatigue, the players tried, and they can still do better next time.”
