Former Super Falcons coach, Christopher Danjuma has declared that he doesn’t see Nigeria’s women national team struggling or having any worry to sail through its group in the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON).
Nigeria were pitched with South Africa, Zambia and Kenya in the draw on Sunday. The competition will be hosted in Ghana.
“The group is a good one for the Super Falcons. It’s very okay at least for the Preliminary stage. They should easily defeat Zambia and Kenya,” the Nasarawa Amazons head coach enthused to Sports247.ng.
“It’s only South Africa that will pose a threat to the Super Falcons in the group. Our ladies know how to handle them. We will top the group for sure.”
The Nasarawa Amazons tactician says Nigeria’s real test will be from the semi final stage when the Super Falcons will potentially meet either Ghana or Cameroon from which caution would need to be exercised with everyone looking to qualify for the World Cup.
“Ghana and Cameroon should qualify in Group A. The acid test is the semi finals. At that stage the adrenaline must have been high and all the teams will be fired up to reach the final.”
“Over the years the semi finals and final at the AWCON are usually well contested. The big teams love to show supremacy when they play.”
“The biggest motivation for the teams is qualification for the World Cup in 2019. No serious country want to miss out in the showpiece.”
“The Super Falcons need to thread with caution if they are to retain the coveted title and qualify for the World Cup.
