Despite suffering defeat in their second build-up friendly on Friday, Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles’ captain, Daniel Kolocho Bameyi is staying upbeat about the squad’s chances of excelling at this year’s Africa U20 Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, Sports247 reports.
Speaking against the backdrop of his side’s 2-0 loss to the Junior Elephants of Ivory Coast on Friday, Bameyi retorted that there is no cause for alarm, considering that it was just another step forward in the Flying Eagles’ preparations for the 2025 U20 AFCON.
The battling defender from Bayelsa United FC of Yenagoa, who scored a penalty that opened the way in a 2-0 victory for the Flying Eagles during their first game against the same Ivorians on Wednesday, stressed: “We are still on our preparations and we are still preparing towards the AFCON U20 tournament. So, we will keep improving day in day out.”
He then shot a look ahead of his team’s chances against Egypt, Morocco and South Africa, all of which he admitted will give Nigeria tough games to overcome in Group B of the upcoming under-20 continental competition that is scheduled to run from April 26th to May 18th in Cote d’Ivoire.
“There’s no cause for alarm, but no country is small. We know we are in a tough group, and that’s why we are preparing very, very hard. We’ll take it one step at a time,” Bameyi assured.
