With renovation work is still ongoing at the Memorial Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, contractors handling the central Facility in the Imo State capital have pledged to deliver the complex the official schedule date.
The roofing of the ten thousand capacity stadium began in earnest Monday,Gim Cord Aluminium were seen mobilizing workers and materials to the site.
Mr.Muna Ekerere Manager of Gim Cord Aluminum promised his Company will finish work in the next one month and then hand over to the Imo State government before the appointed date.
Imo State Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, Hon.Dan Ogu who made another visit to the site to inspect the level of work expresses satisfaction at the rate of work but charged the contractors to speed up more.
The commissioner also inspected the Grasshoppers International arena,and the Volleyball courts, situated at the same premises, while promising to further upgrade them.
He specially instructed that a barrier be created to demarcate the stadium complex and the popular relief market very close to the Stadium, this is with a view to stop intruders into the Stadium.
Nigeria Professional Football League Club, Heartland owned by the Imo state government relocated to an alternative venue, the Okigwe Township Stadium, following the poor condition of the Dan Anyiam Stadium, their “ancestral home” three seasons ago.
And with the playing pitch fully regressed, the floodlights and score boards all in good shape now, the Naze Millionaires -Heartland Football Club are expected to the Stadium for the 202/2021 NPFL season.
The Commissioner was accompanied for the project inspection by the Special Adviser to Imo State government on Sports ,Hon.Ekenna Ilemigbo and the Director of Sports in the State, Mrs. Chizotan Aritola.
The Multipurpose complex situated at Wethedral Road Owerri,the State capital is named after former Vice-captain of the then men’s senior national football team of Nigeria, nicknamed the Red Devils.
