Engineer Damang Fwanchi has emerged Plateau Veteran Scrabble Champion after defeating Chief Barnabas Ejise in the final game of the first edition of The Plateau Scrabble Veterans Meet to cart away the winner’s trophy. Ejise placed second while Ben Shignuhul, former chairman of Mangu Local Government Council placed third.
Fwanchi also won the prize for the highest number of premiums in the meet while Ejise won the prize for the highest scoring single word with EZINES for 92 points.
Both prizes were sponsored by Hon David Racha, former Chairman of Bassa Local Government Council.
In his appreciation speech Fwanchi, a former patron of Plateau State Scrabble Association, commended the present Board of the Plateau State Scrabble Association for the great strides of scrabble on the Plateau and promised to continue to support the growth of the game on the Plateau. He dedicated his victory to the Plateau State Veteran Club popularly referred to as the Mess Club.
Also speaking at the presentation ceremony, Chairman of the organizing committee, Mr Tunji Ayeni appreciated the efforts of the sponsor Col.SG Fwangje (rtd), Grand Patron of the Plateau State Scrabble Association. He also thanked the participants and the various co-sponsors and assured participants that the Veterans Meet is here to stay.
