Group Managing Director Courteville Business Solution,Dr Adebola Ismail Akindele has explained real reasons why he sponsored ongoing U-15 boys & girls Eko youth Cup tagged’ Adebola Akindele Cup.
32 teams in both male and female categories are taking part in the competition whick kicked off 18 June at the Okobaba football pitch,Ebute- Metta, Lagos.
Akindele in his explanation said sponsoring a grassroots football competition is borne out of passion he has for the round leather game.He disclosed that there are many young talented footballers who are roaming about the streets noted that a competition of this magnitude would give the young footballers an opportunity to showcase their talents.
“Many of these young players are not properly engaged and that is why we are having social vices in various places.If we can engage them through sports,the issue of vices can be reduced drastically.I am sponsoring this tourney to encourage the young footballers who have careers in the game and secondly I also sponsored this tournament as part of my contribution to football development in the state,”he said.
Akindele expressed happiness that some players that played the competition in the past are currently in junior national teams in both male and female.
In his own comment, match coordinator, Taofeek Ajibola commended the cup donor for his financial support for the competition and promised that the organisers would work round the clock to make the tournament a memorable one.
The top four teams and outstanding players in the competition will receive mouth watering cash prizes with winners in both categories going home with 400,000 naira. The finals of the competition will hold on Sunday, July 24 at the Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos Island.
