The new general manager of Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Emeka Igwilo has declared that the body will get a new direction and better impetus in their programmes, as he stressed in an interview with sports247.ng that a better lease of life has been added to the board.
Speaking to the media for the first time since his appointment, Igwilo, who is also the federation chief executive officer, said his plan is to reposition cricket in the country.
Igwilo added that the current board of the federation is determined to put things right in the sector, and disclosed that global body, International Cricket Council (ICC) is happy with their efforts.
Igwilo said: “I can tell you that ICC is happy with the progress we are making with the sport of cricket in the country.
“It means there is a need for us to redouble our effort of making Nigeria a cricket relevant and strong nation for the sport in Africa once more.”
On his part, secretary-general of the NCF, Taiwo Oriss disclosed that Thursday, 25th of October 2018 has been set aside for a public youth mass mobilization programme by the federation.
Oriss said the programme at Abuja National Stadium is aimed at formally the sport of cricket to children of school ages.
Oriss added in a chat with sports247.ng: “This project became necessary because the present board wants the sport to return back to its rightful position of respect and excellence in the country.”
