As part of measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, the Kwara Basketball Association has cancelled all basketball activities in the state.
The Chairman of the board, Dr Joseph Adeyemo, in a statement by Bello Azeez, the Secretary of the association, made the announcement on Friday in Ilorin.
Adeyemo said the board and the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development had reached a conclusion to suspend the state preliminaries of Milo secondary schools basketball competition.
He stated that the decision was in the best interest of all parties, while calling on all participating schools to return back to their respective locations.
“The safety and wellbeing of athletes as well the general public is of high priority at this very period, hence, we as a responsible body, had taken the step of suspending all basketball activities,” he said.
Adeyemo therefore advised all players, stakeholders and members of the basketball family to stop all forms of activities in the state, till further directives.
He urged them to obey health tips and regulations provided by the Federal Government and other health officials.
