It is no longer news that the sports activities have been grounded in the last four months in Lagos and Nigeria at large. As many stakeholders are expecting the government to lift the lockdown on sports in the next few weeks, some of them are beginning to count their losses since lockdown had started in Nigeria.
Although many grassroots football organisers in Lagos are lamenting on the continued closure of sports centres as players, coaches and club owners have become a prayer warrior and urged the state government to look into sports sector at this moment considering the fact that the western world has commenced sports activities in the last few weeks.
Our correspondent in an exclusive interview with a notable football Organiser in Alimosho local government, Prince Sulaiman Gbadamosi bore his mind how is coping and struggling to survive during this partial lockdown.
“My brother, it is a bit tough for me in the last four months when the government had ordered the closure of sports activities in Lagos State due to the pandemic disease. Initially, I supported the government for taking such decision so that lives can be saved but presently I think the state government should also lift the lockdown on sports and reopen the sports centres as long as other sectors have come out of lockdown so that football can return to streets of Lagos.
“I have lost two major football tournaments which I supposed to organise during the covid-19. Some football coaches and players began to call me on phone but I didn’t know what to say on my tournaments because I don’t envisage that this lockdown would reach this stage,” he said.
The dark-skinned Organiser said he is at home doing nothing in the last few months and urged the state government to look into the sports sector before it is too late. He said many football Organisers have been lamenting saying that life is difficult for football Organisers during the lockdown.
“Do you know that many Football organisers are taking Organising football competitions as means of their livelihood and we should not forget the fact that we football Organisers are family people too,” he concluded.
