Leicester City missed out on a place in the UEFA Conference League final as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Jose Mourinho’s Roma, losing 2-1 on aggregate.
Following a 1-1 stalemate in the first leg last Thursday at the King Power Stadium, both clubs went into the game needing to win to advance to the final. A Tammy Abraham’s header from a corner kick after only 11 minutes proved to be the game-winner.
Starting on the right wing in City’s 4-3-3 formation, Ademola Lookman struggled to make an impact on the night and was hooked at halftime for Ghana’s Daniel Amartey. Kelechi Iheanacho was also brought on in place of Harvey Barnes at the start of the second half.
The Foxes looked brighter in the second period, but they failed to produce any clear-cut chances, as Roma were content to run the clock down.
In the other fixture, Cyriel Dessers’ Feyenoord booked a spot in the final following a goalless draw at Marseille. The Dutch side had defeated Marseille 3-2 in the reverse fixture. Dessers scored twice in that game, including the game-winning goal to give his team the upper hand.
The one time capped Nigerian, on loan from Genk played the full 90 minutes last night as Feyenoord stood firm to secure a draw and a place in the first ever final of the UEFA Conference League. The match will take place on May 25th at the Arena Kombtare in Tirana, Albania.
