The matchday 2 of the 2022-23 Europa Conference League group stage saw a host of Nigerians feature for their various clubs on Thursday night. How did they perform?
In Group G, Super Eagles forward Peter Olayinka scored one and assisted another to help Slavia Praha defeat FC Ballkani 3-2 at home.
Slavia Praha came from behind twice in the game, with Olayinka netting the club’s second equalizer in the 34th minute. It was his second Conference League goal in as many games this season.
The 26-year-old then turned provider when he teed up Lukas Masopust for the game’s winning goal in the 41st minute. Moses Usor was a halftime substitute for Masopust.
Still in Group G, Ahmed Musa lasted for 57 minutes as Sivasspor secured a hard-fought 1-0 win at CFR Cluj. Both Sivasspor and Slavia occupy the top two spots in the group with four points apiece.
Samuel Chukwueze had a disappointing night for Villarreal in their 2-1 Group C win at Hapoel Beer Sheva. He was hooked at the interval.
In Group H’s encounter between Pyunik and Slovan Bratislava, former Nigeria youth international Yusuf Otubanjo scored one to help Pyunik to a 2-0 win. Uche Agbo, who has one appearance for the Super Eagles started for Slovan Bratislava but he was replaced at halftime.
