TF came calling yesterday at SOCA to see for himself and to feel the atmosphere that has kept several readers salivating to pay a visit and have their own experience.
He came on a day that the traditional leaders of my community in Ago Ododo in Abeokuta were paying their first official visit to the school in 13 years.
He had a great time, sitting in the evening and soaking in the severity and beauty of the environment, witnessing the throng of young boys and girls from schools in the local government playing small-sided matches on the fields, and listening in my conversation with the traditional heads of Ile Ogboni in Ago Ododo, my paternal roots in Abeokuta. He actually seized the moment and recorded a piece of what would one day soon be historic.
After the meeting, TF was taken round the school campus to see for himself the ‘small’ additional work that has been going on there since his last visit 2 years ago. He found that a great deal had taken place in the life of SOCA.
By the way, TF stands for Tunde Fagbenle, the erudite writer, renowned columnist, social activist and political commentator. Towards evening, as we rounded off our long walk around the campus, he asked for a chair to sit on in order to catch his breath. No one takes that long walk around the premises of this very small school perched high up in the hills of Wasimi Orile, Ogun State, without breaking a sweat and some story to take away.
In this attached picture, I caught TF off guard and in a contemplating mood, capturing his own ‘take-away’.
