The combination of football and education is the model of operation at Ekofootball Future Stars, chairman Barrister Seyi Akinwumi has reiterated.
Akinwumi went as far as saying that a good player who doesn’t perform well academically would be dropped from the football school.
“We are very happy with the input and outcomes that we have had but we want to accomplish a lot more,” he told Sports247.
“If we pick a player and he doesn’t do well in class we drop him. I have always done that and we will continue our program as it is. And we have evidence that it has worked. Many of our players have gone on to bigger things.”
The Lagos state FA chairman also spoke of his delight in Wisdom Ubani signing his first professional contract with NK Lokomotiva in Croatia. The Nigerian youth international spent some time with Eko football Future Stars during his formative years.
“We’re happy as a father would be when his child is successful. There are many more coming up. There are many more who are already playing in teams abroad. As you know one of them was even captain of the national U17.
“A few more are coming who you’ll hear of in the Super Eagles in a few year’s time. We hope that there will be a continuous flow from Eko Football all the way to the very top of football. One of them will win African footballer of the year soon.”
