The Kenya League Champions is listed as one of participating teams in the state sponsored, but the management of the team are not ready to yield to players’ demand of a share of the bonus that comes with winning the league.

The players have been on strike since Saturday, demanding a share of the Ksh5 million prize money the club received from FKF for emerging champions of 2024/2025 season.

However, the management insists that the money is for other logistical costs and clarified that there was no contractual obligation to give the players a share of the cash.

But the players pressed on with their demand and refused to travel on Tuesday to Nigeria, their arrival date for the Coal City International Preseason .

In the light of this, Gor Mahia management have issued a 48 hour query on the players on why they should not face the consequence of their actions, reminding the players of the different breaches of the terms in their contract for refusing to train for consecutive four days.

This brouhaha has left the organiser of the Coal City International Tournament in vacuum as there is no official communication from Gor Mahia as per their participation in the much publicized international preseason less than 48 hours to Gor Mahia first game.

Gor Mahia are scheduled to face Brazilian giants Corinthians on Friday 2 August, and play against Coton FC of Benin on Sunday 4 August, and conclude their matches against Nigeria’s Remo Stars on Tuesday 6 August.

The competition also features Nigeria Champions and hosts Enugu Rangers, Enyimba, Shooting Stars and Remo Stars.
