As the Super Eagles B prepare for a pivotal clash against Ghana’s Black Galaxies in the African Nations Championship qualifiers, Coach Daniel Ogunmodede has spoken with unwavering determination about his team’s mindset and approach to the game.
With the final leg set for Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Ogunmodede emphasized that the focus is on achieving victory to secure a place in the CHAN finals scheduled for February 2025 across East Africa.
Reflecting on the first-leg draw in Accra, Ogunmodede addressed both the team’s resilience and their ambition to finish strong in Uyo.
“We are doing everything to stay focused by avoiding any distractions,” Ogunmodede said. “Yes, we got a scoreless draw in the first leg away and now playing at home, but we are not in any way carried away. Our objective was to score an away goal in Accra, but that did not happen.”
The coach knows the stakes and historical difficulties of facing Ghana but remains optimistic. “On Saturday, we will approach the game like our lives depend on it,” he asserted.
“This match is not just about tactics or skill; it’s about heart, determination, and fighting like warriors for every ball and opportunity. We know what this means for Nigeria, and we’re ready to give everything.”
Ogunmodede has been rallying his squad to maintain peak mental focus and physical preparation, knowing the intensity that Ghana will bring, especially given the Black Galaxies’ desire to make amends for their recent failures in AFCON qualifiers.
“This is a battle of pride and purpose,” Ogunmodede stated. “We respect Ghana, but we are confident in our preparation and spirit.”
The coach’s clarity of purpose resonates throughout the squad as they aim to seize their home advantage and make history on Saturday.
