Ahead of the new season, Ogunbote spoke extensively to Sports247 on the fans’ expectations, his beliefs, recruitments, and his admiration for the team owner which played a big factor in his employment.

“It a big news and I want to give glory to God almighty for making it a reality, It has been a rumor for several weeks but now it has come to limelight, It’s open and real now, a bigger task than one needs to live up to responsibilities,” he stated.

“Anywhere they mention Ogunbote, everyone expects that you must win the league and all sorts. I’m aware of this and that’s what makes this challenge herculean.”

On his method of using established footballers in his team, he said, “it all depends on who is seeing what, that might not be completely true, there’s never a club that I’ve been to that it’s not in my contract that I will sign five young players as junior professionals Enyimba inclusive.”

“If I look at Enyimba, I signed four junior professionals during my time there, I have Valentine, Ekuwem, Maxwell, and Emeka. As I talk to you today, three out of these four, I signed outside the country.”

He explained further, “If you go to Lobi Stars, you’ll find Akele and his likes there that have never played the game at all. Ekuwem was in the junior team before I picked him there, the truth of the matter is; I mix my team because I know and have my reasons for whatever I’m doing.”

“There was a particular year ABS went on relegation, that same year, fourteen of the players went to established clubs, grade A teams, so it tells you that they were good players but they do not have the capacity to withstand the rigor of the premiership then but if they can have that amount of players in the premiership, it tells you they are quality players. So you need one to three quality players with experience that can regulate them and make them do things right.”

On the new season expectations, he clarified that there’s nothing new, “Remo Stars is a team with youths, we still have youths in the system that are of quality that one can bring into the system to build up the team and bringing those ones will make the others sit up. It will improve their game and enhance the team’s general performance. So what we do is that the recruitment won’t be whole, we have a team on the ground, all we need to do is dot the i’s and cross the t’s. We have few players that we need to introduce to the team to make us a team to beat.”

On the attraction to be the new tactician, he said, “that’s a question for the team to answer but for me, I see it as a new challenge. I’ve been with government-run teams fortunately, I’ve been to one private team and it’s been a while, unfortunately, I couldn’t finish because of one reason or the other but now, I think it’s another experience that I want to see how it works coupled with the fact that the owner of the team is a sport loving person who has all it takes, passion and all other for the team’s progress, Ogunbote concluded.
