Plateau United head coach, Mbwas Mangut, expressed disappointment following his team’s 1-0 defeat to Abia Warriors in their matchday 28 encounter of the NPFL season.
Reflecting on the match, Mangut acknowledged the efforts of his players but highlighted a lapse in concentration during the second half that allowed Abia Warriors to capitalize and secure the victory.
“It wasn’t easy but at the same time, the boys at a point in time were coordinating and in between the second half, we lost a little concentration,” Mangut remarked.
“They took advantage and got the goal, and we kept pressing, but we were not lucky to get the goal. Abia Warriors deserve it. They kept character and were able to get the maximum points.”
Concerned about the implications of the loss on Plateau United’s league position, Mangut emphasized the importance of accumulating points as the season nears its conclusion.
He stressed the need for the team to maintain a competitive edge to challenge for the league title.
“The league is rounding up, we are out for points and now we are losing the points, and it’s not good for the team,” Mangut lamented.
“No matter how good the play, you need to cover some points for the league to be there to challenge the league.”
Looking ahead, Mangut highlighted the significance of securing a continental ticket as a measure of success for the season.
He expressed optimism about Plateau United’s chances and deemed qualification for either the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederations Cup as a commendable achievement.
“Success could be getting to the continent, any of the slots, we call it a success,” Mangut concluded, emphasizing the team’s aspirations for continental competition.
